ABSTRACT

Background: Menstruation is a cyclic physiological phenomenon showing fluctuations of various Gonadal hormones. Gonadal hormones (estrogen and progesterone) influences pain sensitivity, the former strongly influences nociceptive actions; whereas the latter prevents neuropathic pain some previous study has shown changes in pain sensitivity during menstruation. However, there is only little evidence present on effect of Gonadal hormones on experimental pain Sensitivity. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the present study is to differentiate in Sensation of pain stimulus in terms of - pain threshold, pain tolerance, pain intensity, pain unpleasantness in females with normal menstruation during different phases through using cold presser test. Materials and Methods: A total of 55 normal healthy females were enrolled in the study as per the eligibility criteria. Cold presser test was used as a pain stimulus source. The participants were instructed to hold their least dominant hand in the water bath as long as possible and were requested to inform the first sensation of pain which denoted the participants’ pain threshold. Time from pain threshold to the point where participants could no longer cope with pain and indicate stop, was recorded as pain tolerance. At this point, participants were directed to note pain intensity and unpleasantness on the visual analogue scale. Results: The results showed that high significant pain intensity, pain unpleasantness, and pain tolerance level were highly significant during follicular phase than luteal phase. Conclusion: In our study, we concluded pain perception difference across during different phase of menstruation in the form of high significant pain intensity, pain unpleasantness, and pain tolerance during follicular phase due to the hormonal fluctuation and the differences in autonomic nervous system reactivity these would be the underlying mechanism for these findings.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#Gonadal hormone is essential for the health of postmenopausal women, however, few studies have focused on the epidemiological distribution of gonadal hormones in postmenopausal women in very late postmenopausal women. This study aims to investigate and analyze the differences of serum gonadal hormone content and its influential factors among female centenarians in Hainan, China.@*METHODS@#The questionnaire and physical examination data of 741 female centenarians and 401 elderly females in Hainan Province were collected, and venous blood samples were taken to detect the indexes of lipid metabolism, bone metabolism, and gonadal hormone. The differences of gonadal hormones and relavant factors in female centenarians were analyzed and compared.@*RESULTS@#The serum levels of estradiol and progesterone of female centenarians were significantly higher than those of the elderly females (both P<0.001). The serum levels of estradiol and testosterone of ethnic minority centenarians were higher than those in Han nationality (P<0.001), and the serum estradiol and testosterone concentrations were relatively higher when the daily activities were more than 10 min (both P<0.05). Serum estradiol concentration was negatively correlated with apolipoprotein A-I, high density lipoprotein, triglyceride and bone formation markers such as calcium, inorganic phosphorus and vitamin D3, and was positively correlated with the special sequence of β-collagen (markers of bone resorption) (all P<0.01).@*CONCLUSIONS@#For the extremely late postmenopausal women (such as centenarians), there may be characteristic expressions of gonadal hormones, especially estradiol. There is an unprotective correlation of serum estradiol with lipid metabolism index and bone metabolism index in female centenarians, so it is necessary to evaluate the estrogen content and the use of estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women.

ABSTRACT

Pregnancy epulis is a tumor-like lesion that results from aggravating gingivitis due to high level of gonadal hormone concentration. Pregnancy epulis is commonly manifested as a single lump. A case of multiple pregnancy epulises, which has been rarely explored, is reported in this paper. The patient received no other treatment but a single supragingival scaling. Results showed no remarkable changes in the lesion. However, all the epulides regressed spontaneously in five months after the parturition.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the gonadal hormone and seminal plasma of patients with abnormal semen liquefaction and investigate the influence mechanism in order to provide guidance for the diagnosis and treatment. Methods 152 men of childbearing age were divided into two groups according to the liquefaction time (cut?off point: 60 minutes). Routine semen parameters, gonadal hormone and seminal plasma were tested and compared between the above groups. T?test was applied to compare individual gland function (pH value, neutralα?glycosidase, fructopyranose, seminal plasma zinc and citric acid) and gonadal hormone (FSH,LH,PRL,T and E2). Logistic regression analysis was adopted to probe the influencing factors for abnormal semen liquefaction. Results Seminal pH value (7.47 ± 0.13 vs. 7.32 ± 0.18),citric acid(51.12 ± 12.95 vs. 83.11 ± 33.46)and FSH (4.40 ± 1.03 vs. 4.85 ± 1.50)levels were significant different between the two groups (P < 0.05),but the other indexes showed no significant difference. Correlation regression analysis showed that semen liquefaction capacity has correlative relationship with seminal plasma fructose (OR=2.644),citric acid (OR=0.922),serum T (OR=1.029) and E2,while no correlative relationship with other indexes. Conclusions Correlation between two glands (seminal vesicle and prostate) and balance in the two hormones (T and E2) influence the liquefaction time. Specific causes should be distinguished before diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Luteinizing hormone(LH)is a gonadotropin of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis(HPG),secreted by the anteri?or pituitary. The secretion of LH is directly controlled by the release of gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH),acts at the ovaries and testes to stimulate the production of gonadal hormones. Aging leads to increases in LH,and higher serum levels of LH has been ob?served in Alzheimer′s disease(AD)patients when compared to age-matched controls. Evidences from basic research and epidemiologi?cal investigation support the critical role of elevated LH in pathogenic process of AD and deteriorating cognitive decline. Here we sum?marize the recent discoveries containing human AD epidemiological evidence for LH,cognitive impairments resulting from LH activi?ty,LH in AD pathology and LH receptor signaling mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

Luteinizing hormone(LH)is a gonadotropin of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis(HPG), secreted by the anterior pituitary. The secretion of LH is directly controlled by the release of gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH), acts at the ovaries and testes to stimulate the production of gonadal hormones. Aging leads to increases in LH, and higher serum levels of LH has been observed in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)patients when compared to age-matched controls. ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the possible mechanism for KiSSI gene in control gonadotropin - releasing hormone(GnRH)secretion participating in sexual development onset and normal reproduction regulation by investigating the changes in expression of KiSS1,GnRH in hypothalamus and luteinizing hormone(LH),follicle stimulating hormone (FSH),and estradiol(E2 )in serum by using RNA interference mediated by lentivirus - based vectors, after interfering expression of KiSSI. Methods Ninety female Sprague - Dawley rats of 21 days were randomly divided into 3 groups:interference virus group receiving intracerebroventricular injection of KiSSI - microRNA interference lentivirus;lentivi-rus - control group given intracerebroventricular injection of lentivirus without interference effect;9 g/ L saline control group given intracerebroventricular injection of 9 g/ L saline. Ten rats in each group and the animals were sacrificed at 30 - day - old,35 - day - old,45 - day - old, respectively. Then the expressions of KiSSI and GnRH mRNA were detec-ted in the rat hypothalamus with real - time PCR,the LH,FSH,and E2 in serum was examined with chemiluminescence method. Results The levels of KiSSI mRNA in interference virus group were significantly reduced after being infected with recombinant lentivirus compared with those of 9 g/ L saline control group( at 30 d:0. 106 ± 0. 018;at 35 d:0. 218 ± 0. 025;at 45 d:0. 215 ± 0. 033,all P = 0. 000). The level of GnRH mRNA in interference virus group was sig-nificantly reduced after being infected with recombinant lentivirus compared with that of 9 g/ L saline control group(at 30 d:0. 230 ± 0. 040;at 35 d:0. 407 ± 0. 030,all P = 0. 000). The level of LH in interference virus group was lower than the other 2 groups at 35 d[(0. 101 ± 0. 004)IU/ L,P = 0. 467]. The level of FSH in the interference virus group was lower than that of the other 2 groups at 35 d[(0. 235 ± 0. 014)IU/ L,P = 0. 015]. The level of E2 in the interfe-rence virus group was lower than that of the other 2 groups at 35 d and 45 d[at 35 d:(171. 750 ± 11. 050)nmol/ L, P = 0. 000;at 45 d:(192. 310 ± 13. 100)nmol/ L,P = 0. 010]. Conclusions Lentivirus with KiSSI - microRNA can affect the expression of GnRH mRNA and the levels of sex hormone. Lateral cerebral ventricle microinjection of KiSSI -microRNA lentivirus can delay sexual development of Sprague - Dawley female rats.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of the levels of serum gonadal hormone and plasma calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) on the hot flushes symptom of perimenopausal women. Methods 65 perimenopausal women (35 with hot flushes and 30 without hot flushes) and 25 healthy fertile women were enrolled. The subjects were analyzed for serum estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) ,luteinizing hormone (LH) and plasma calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Results. ① There were no significant differences of the E2 levels between the perimenopausal women with and without hot flushes (P>0.05). The levels of FSH and LH were significantly higher in the women with hot flushes than women without hot flushes and fertile women(P<0.05),② The levels of plasma CGRP were significantly higher in the women with hot flushes than women without hot flushes (P<0.05), and significantly lower than fertile women,③The levels of plasma CGRP were significantly higher in severe hot flu-shes group than that in the mild hot flushes group and moderate hot flushes group(P<0.05), the severity of hot flu-shes was positively related to the level of plasma CGRP(rs=0.823, P<0.01), but there was no relationship be-tween serum E2 and the severity of hot flushes (P>0.05). Conclusion The occurrence of perimenopansal hot flu-shes might be closely related to the decline and fluctuation of serum E2,increase of FSH and LH and the concentra-tion variety of plasma CGRP.
